Kotor & Ostrog - Montenegro
Sunday, October 17, 2010 at 11:27AM Montenegro was the unexpected highlight of our trip. We travelled from Sarajevo, stopping at the Ostrog Monastery and continuing to the coastal cities of Budva and Kotor.
The Monastery of Ostrog (Манастир Острог) is a Serb Orthodox Church monastery built into an almost vertical cliff around 900 metres above sea level. The Monastery was founded by Vasilije, the Metropolitan Bishop of Herzegovina in the 17th century and is the most popular pilgrimage place in Montenegro.
After visiting the Monastery, we travelled to Budva and Kotor on the Montenegrin coastline of the Adriatic Sea. The Bay of Kotor was stunning and is a submerged river canyon, but resembles a fjord. A little piece of Scandinavia in the Balkans!
