Amalfi Coast Wander

A recent hiking trip took us from Ravello, through Amalfi, Conca dei Marini and Praiano to Positano over an 8 day period.

The trip was a great mix of rugged coastline and peaceful forests with many small family farms dotted amongst the terraces. Travelling in May provided some amazing colours and glorious light throughout our journey and allowed us to meet the genuine locals along the way.

Kotor & Ostrog - Montenegro

Montenegro was the unexpected highlight of our trip. We travelled from Sarajevo, stopping at the Ostrog Monastery and continuing to the coastal cities of Budva and Kotor.

The Monastery of Ostrog (Манастир Острог) is a Serb Orthodox Church monastery built into an almost vertical cliff around 900 metres above sea level. The Monastery was founded by Vasilije, the Metropolitan Bishop of Herzegovina in the 17th century and is the most popular pilgrimage place in Montenegro.

After visiting the Monastery, we travelled to Budva and Kotor on the Montenegrin coastline of the Adriatic Sea. The Bay of Kotor was stunning and is a submerged river canyon, but resembles a fjord. A little piece of Scandinavia in the Balkans!

The walls that surround the city are around 6 metres thick on the landward side and up to 14 metres high on the seaward side.
